FAQs
Face moisturisers, also known as lotions, cream emulsions, ointments, and balms, are prepared with emollients that help skin retain moisture. Moisturizers add moisture to the skin's outermost layers. The primary benefit they provide to the skin is a barrier that keeps the skin protected from environmental aggressors while also keeping in moisture and nutrients. The facial skin's protective barrier can be strengthened by regularly moisturising it. Also, as Marmur puts it, "it aids in preventing dryness from setting in or in reviving skin that has already become dry." Applying moisturiser helps prevent further drying of the skin from environmental factors such as cold, dry air.
After washing your face, apply a moisturiser to keep your skin from drying out. To maximise their moisturising effects, they should be applied to skin that is just slightly damp. A board-certified dermatologist recommends using a cotton pad or baby washcloth to gently exfoliate the skin every time you wash your face. The dead skin on your face will be exfoliated and the moisturiser will be able to work better. Then, using your fingertips, apply a small quantity of moisturiser to your face and gently rub it in using circular motions until it has been absorbed.
